Sint Egbert kapel - Church

The Sint Egbert chapel is the Roman Catholic church of Schiermonnikoog. The small cruciform church on the Badweg was built in 1915 and has been a national monument since 1999.
What can you expect at the Sint Egbert chapel?
- Building: The church was designed by Groningen architect A.Th. van Elmpt in a sober, rationalist style. A wooden roof turret holds the original bell, and a wooden Celtic cross crowns the front gable.
- Interior: The interior is almost entirely original, with wooden ceilings, pews, a confessional and a marble altar with gilded decoration. The stained-glass windows show motifs such as a dove and a chalice.
- History: Next to the church stands the holiday home of the same name, founded in 1922.
