Koningshuis - Museum

Museum In het Koningshuis on the Nieuwestreek on Schiermonnikoog is a small museum about the island's history. It is in the former headmaster's house and is named after its last resident, teacher Henk Koning, not the royal family.
What can you expect at the Koningshuis?
- History: In 1876 a new primary school was built on the Nieuwestreek, paid for by King William III, with the headmaster's house beside it. The school made way for the town hall in 1978. After Henk Koning died in 2018, the foundation 't Heer en Feer took over the house.
- Collection: Corners on beach poles, whaling, the maritime school, the island dialect and Vredenhof cemetery. There is a case of painted jugs by Luitjen Elles and a dark room showing old films about the island.
- Library: Browse island books, bound village papers and teacher Koning's school-trip scrapbooks. Models of ferries, planes and helicopters complete the picture.
