Kaap Kobbeduinen - Observation point

Kaap Kobbeduinen is a wooden beacon in the dunes on the eastern side of Schiermonnikoog. From this viewpoint you overlook one of the most remote and unspoilt parts of the National Park.
What can you expect at Kaap Kobbeduinen?
- A historic beacon: The beacon was built as a landmark for sailors and as a survey point for mapmakers. Today it is above all a striking landmark in the dune landscape.
- Views over mudflats and salt marsh: You look out over the Wadden Sea, the Oosterkwelder and the sandbanks that fall dry at low tide.
- Birdwatching: The area is very interesting during migration. Spoonbill, skylark and wheatear breed nearby, and the marsh harrier also shows up here regularly.
- Peace and quiet: Here you experience the dynamics of the mudflats in complete silence, far from the crowds.
Practical information
- Access: You can cycle to the end of the cycle path. From there you walk along narrow paths through the dunes to the beacon.
- Breeding season: From 15 April to 15 July the Oosterkwelder is closed. The path to the beacon remains open all year.
- Tip: Bring binoculars and combine your visit with Kaap Willemsduin or the De Kooiplaats duck decoy.
